These Design Elements Elevate a Beverly Hills Home to a Timeless Estate
Written by Kateryna, founder of Kate’s Interiors, with over 10 years of experience in luxury residential design.
As seen in my recent Beverly Hills remodel, timeless elegance is the result of carefully curated materials, artisanal details, and thoughtful space planning. In this project, my goal was to create a home that feels like an estate—rooted in history, but fully adapted for modern living.
1. Marble That Defines Spaces
Marble is more than just a surface—it’s a statement. In our Beverly Hills project, we sourced premium Italian Calacatta for its warm veining and unique character. This natural stone was used not only for kitchen countertops but also as floor inlays and bathroom wall cladding, creating visual continuity throughout the home.
2. Custom Plaster Finishes
Plaster finishes bring depth and texture that paint simply can’t achieve. We worked with Los Angeles artisans to create hand-troweled plaster walls that catch the light differently at every angle. This detail added a soft, lived-in feel to otherwise grand spaces, perfectly balancing formality with comfort.
3. Gilding and Metallic Accents
For this home’s formal dining room, we incorporated subtle gilding on mouldings and ceiling medallions, inspired by European estates. The goal was refinement, not excess—so the gold leaf was muted and brushed to blend seamlessly with the plaster tones.
4. Architectural Moulding
Moulding transforms a space from ordinary to extraordinary. We designed custom crown moulding profiles that referenced classic French detailing but scaled them for the home’s modern proportions. As recommended by the American Institute of Architects (AIA), proportion and scale were key to preserving elegance without overwhelming the rooms.
5. Integrating Modern Comfort
Timeless design doesn’t mean living in a museum. We integrated discreet lighting controls, climate systems, and custom storage solutions to ensure the home functions effortlessly for modern life—without compromising aesthetics.
Why These Details Matter
Each design element was chosen to add not just beauty, but also permanence. From the cool touch of marble underfoot to the subtle glow of gilded accents, these details create a home that will still feel current decades from now.
At Kate’s Interiors, I personally oversee every design phase—from initial sketches to the final installation—ensuring quality, clarity, and client comfort.
